Born in Morristown New Jersey and raised in Westchester, NY; Robert became a skilled athlete and musician and attended St Lukes Prep School in New Canaan, CT. He then attended Susquehanna University to study Studio Engineering of Sound. He changed majors to broadcasting and business in his second year along with becoming a dj at the campus radio station. After joining Phi Mu Delta fraternity a few of his brothers and himself had an inside track to working for ABC Sports and ESPN which they did for 4 years. He attended an internship his senior year at WGAL Channel 8 in York PA and studied the news aspect of field production videography. After graduation he was hired as a news cameraman at WPDE TV 15 in Myrtle Beach, later to become the youngest chief photographer at the station after 6 months. In Myrtle Beach he struck out on his own to become a producer of a saltwater fishing show, "Southern Saltwater" which he filmed, edited and produced and gained national recognition to be aired on Fox Sports South, The Outdoor Channel, and Sunshine Network. Old episodes can still be seen today in the local Myrtle Beach market. He is the creator and producer of the Real Estate Television Network's "Home Solutions" and "Custom Builder Showcase" which informs consumers about the real estate market and what is available.
Robert Somes is a jack of all trades in the broadcasting industry, from radio production, to television programs, to web site design, developing informational multimedia networks to 3d animation, his skills are well rounded allowing him to succeed in any area of entertainment and marketing. He is also an avid muay thai and jui jitsu martial artist and practices regularly. Hoping to one day create training videos for muay thai enthusiasts. Rob plays the piano, saxophone, and guitar and is looking to eventually create his own music library for production uses and film scores.
Currently he reside in the North Carolina Mountains in the city of Banner Elk where he manages and is the creative director heading up a travel channel called Mountain TV Guide which he started almost 2 years ago. |
